In the Spotlight: With Shweta Subram

Shweta Subram, is a Canadian playback singer, known for her power-pact voice in the song “Jalebi Baby”. She primarily sings in Hindi, as well as Punjabi, Sindhi, Tamil, English and other languages. Shweta is the recipient of multiple award and was an active participant in the International Indian Film Academy Awards, performing with Bollywood music composer/director duo Salim–Sulaiman for IIFA Rocks in Toronto.

Maggi K. from Vivaah Celebrations had the pleasure of having a candid discussion with Shweta Subram and learning more about her opinions and insights into the her industry.

1) When did you step into the world of music? What inspired you to pursue a career in the music industry?

My entry into the world of music was not planned. I have a graduate degree in Commerce and a minor in Psychology. Singing was always a hobby for me, but then I kept winning awards in almost every competition. I won a global singing competition which was judged by Shankar Mahadevan and was also awarded as Best Singer in North America by the prestigious Sangam Kala Group. Then, I got the chance to perform with Salim-Sulaiman at IIFA Awards when it happened in Toronto and during a visit to Mumbai ended up recording a song with Ayushmann Khurrana for the movie Hawaizaada, which became my Bollywood debut. This is how it happened. As I performed at shows around the world, I really enjoyed interacting with my audience and making sure they had a good time with my performance. While no one inspired me to pursue a career in the music industry, I look upto Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal as role models in the industry.

2) Whats the story behind the sensational Jalebi Baby Girl? How do you think thats influenced your career within the industry?

Jalebi Baby just happened out of the blue. I’ve been a fan of Tesher’s music and we connected over Instagram. He asked me to be a background vocalist for Jalebi Baby, which is not something I would normally do. However, I agreed as I wanted to support a fellow Indo-Canadian musician who I knew was going to blow up. When the song came out though, my voice was not used as background but instead as the main hook of the song! It was great to see millions of people all over the world grooving to my voice, doing tiktoks and reels, and just enjoying the song. However, many people still do not really know that it’s my voice they’re grooving to and they’re surprised when they find out.

3) How do you keep evolving to keep your audiences engaged and interested in your performances?

I consider myself fortunate that I can easily connect with my audiences and entertain them through a wide range of songs, whether its through a romantic song like Pehla Nasha or an item number like Baby Doll or a classic like Damadum Mast Qalander. And of course, Jalebi Baby which I sing at every show now. At the same time, I believe that we need to continue evolving our performances and I experiment with different ideas that, based on my experience, I know the audience will enjoy. These ideas include mashups of popular songs or a mix of Hindi and English songs. While I have a band through which I can entertain audiences for hours, I have also seen a tremendous response to my acoustic sets as it really brings out my voice for soulful songs such as Dil Diya Gallan /Jeena Jeena or ghazals such as Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo.

4) You’ve recently focused your attention on growing your presence in the Middle East. What do you think about the response and opportunity here?

I think the Middle East is such an amazing market. You see such a great amalgamation of cultures and some incredible events and weddings take place here. The people here have given me a lot of love, especially as I was invited to perform for Dubai Expo 2020 by the India Pavilion at DEC Amphitheatre and by the Canada Pavilion at the Jubilee Stage. I was also the first female vocalist to perform at a Bollywood concert in Saudi Arabia alongside playback singer Shaan. Beyond this, I have been honored at various events and have met some amazing people. I would love to continue performing in the Middle East and continue basking in the love that people here shower upon me. Dubai has now become home and I hope to call this place home for a long time to come.

5) What aspirations and goals have you set for yourself for the future?

Although I’ve had my debut in Bollywood and in the Tamil film industry, I aspire to do more playback work for movies and shows, given the amazing content we see on OTT platforms. I would also love the opportunity to collaborate with promising and upcoming names in the industry. Beyond this, I want to keep doing what I love! Singing LIVE and making my audience groove whether it’s at a Diwali concert, a corporate party, or a sangeet!

In the Spotlight: With MC Priya Jethani

Priya Jethani, a television anchor, emcee, actor, and model, a magnetic personality. Here’s a sneakpeak of her wonderful journey so far. Indeed, she is a role model for countless young women.

Maggi K. from Vivaah Celebrations had the pleasure of having a candid discussion with Priya Jethani and learning more about her opinions and insights into the her industry.

1) When did you step into the world of events? What inspired you to pursue a career as a Emcee/Host?

It happened a year after I made my debut in the media industry as a presenter for ZEE TV Middle East’s lifestyle television show, Zee Connect. People began to recognize me as a television personality and began approaching me about hosting live events for them. I believe one of my very first performances was a 25th wedding anniversary party for a couple from my hometown. Knowing that I’ve had the opportunity to speak with some major celebrities for my program, and that I’ve done interviews in one take, has given me the confidence to host a large crowd and keep it engaging for my viewers.

2) Having hosted events around the world, what do you personally prefer – corporate events or private celebrations?

Each event, every audience is different. I have hosted private celebrations to corporate shows to even sports leagues. There is always some pressure because as a host you have to ensure the event not only flows in a structured way but also that people have a good time. The energy always has to be high in the room whatever event that may be. My efforts pay off when people from the audience and organizers say how much they loved my work on stage. that’s what I love.

3) How do you keep evolving to keep your audiences engaged on social media ?

Social media is ever evolving and you have to keep up with the trends. I take my audience through my day almost everyday. And I look for creative ways to do that so they are not bored. I love creating content whether it is about showcasing my outfits from my shoots and events, my moments with celebrities, my hectic working hours and behind the scenes, my workout routine or even my acting skills through funny videos.

4) How do you increase interaction levels between both sides of the family?

I try to gather as much info I can about the families and the couple so I can bring in a personal connect during the wedding. Knowing the relationships and anecdotes helps to add a fun element to the wedding that everyone enjoys. To that I add my own creativity and bring in impromptu interactions and activities once I have gauged the audience response.

5) What’s your opinion on co-hosting celebrations?

It’s fun to do that sometimes (provided client has the budget for 2 hosts haha) But on a serious note, I have co-hosted some celebrations with other professional emcees or someone from the family itself and it has been super fun.

6) What do you plan on achieving in the next few years of your career ?

I always feel there’s a long way to go. Won’t deny how far I have come in establishing myself but I do intend on getting myself across the world, do more destination weddings and shows across countries and grow further in the presenter/emcee space.

In the Spotlight: With Adi Golan – Paris Select

Vivaah Celebrations has launched a new series of blogs called “In the Spotlight” where we get into conversation with some of the leading talent around the world.

Maggi Kewlani, COO of Vivaah Celebrations speaks to some of the finest personas globally who are essential to the Wedding Industry and elevate wedding experiences.

With more than 60 artists on stage, “Paris Select” directed by Adi Golan is the largest live-band Worldwide ! An international cast of highly dedicated artists and numerous experiences in the most prestigious Parisian locations has allowed “Paris-Select” to export its expertise all over the world and thus become one of the world’s leading bands for events and chic parties. Paris Select is more than just a band, it’s an off-beat, original and breath-taking artistic promise. An unmatched performance that resonates in the four corners of the world.

Vivaah Celebrations had the pleasure of having a candid discussion with Adi Golan and learning more about his opinions and insights into the music industry.

When did you step into the world of music? What inspired you to pursue a career in the music industry?

I began taking piano lessons when I was five years old and had my first performance when I was ten; I knew music would be my career from the beginning. As a teenager, I formed a small band that grew over time and eventually evolved into what we now call “Paris Select.”

Having performed at events around the world, what do you personally prefer – corporate events or private celebrations?

Private events, particularly weddings, because they provide opportunities to share emotions with family members. This is not something we experience at corporate events; which are also exciting but in a different way.

How do you keep evolving to keep your audiences engaged and interested in your performances?

During the performance, there is this “live” magic that captivates the audience and a special energy that makes them enjoy the show.

Otherwise, we have a community of followers and fans that we keep engaged by sharing various types of content with them, such as shows from around the world, travel experiences, behind-the-scenes, rehearsals, recordings, and anything else related to our activity.

You’ve recently focused your attention on growing your presence in the Middle East. What do you think about the response and opportunity here?

I remember our first show in Lebanon a few years ago; it was incredible, and it opened up many more opportunities for us throughout the region. The Middle East is a fantastic market, particularly Dubai, which is a hotspot for destination events, various types of events, private and corporate, and events of all origins.

What aspirations and goals have you set for Paris Select for the future?

We’ve been getting more and more requests to go on tour from fans all over the world. So far, “Paris Select” is only available at private or corporate events. One of our future plans is to change that by going on tour, performing at festivals and public shows, and reaching out to a diverse range of audiences. People are constantly telling us that they want to buy a ticket to a “Paris Select” show, so we’ve begun working on that, and something exciting is surely coming up!
